The social and financial condition of our planet is pointing to the need for something new and the time to take responsibility for our own future. While people in this country are struggling to keep their homes, their jobs, pay their power bills, and feed their families, millions around the world are homeless, without power, and starving to death at a rate of over 40,000 people a day. We believe a solution exists and that the future we want tomorrow is possible with the actions we can take today.

With the number of people motivated to action right now we have the ability to create something truly different, not “a fix” or adaptation of the current system, but a new and better system. As Einstein said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” We couldn’t agree more, and the current social and political environment is mobilizing people to think differently and seek alternative solutions. One Community is one viable solution that can take this momentum and channel it into a direction that will benefit us all.

Equally important to now being the time for One Community are recent technological advances. Never before has the technology been so available to live sustainably, connect with anyone anywhere in the world, and access and share information and resources. Because of all of this, we stand at a unique point in history with an opportunity to not just collaborate, but to inform and educate people on what is possible. And in so doing, combined with so many people wanting something significantly different, we can generate the necessary appeal and widespread interest to really transform how we look at living and move everyone to the next level.

One Community is seizing on this opportunity with a detailed strategy to be a pioneer in creating and sharing sustainable sustainability through accomplishment of our 6 month plan to become a world leader in open source sustainability tools, tutorials, and resources, and a long-term goal to move beyond a model solution and demonstrate a solution making model. In this way we intend to demonstrate a model that evolves as the challenges of our planet evolve by not just designing one solution, but rather a creator of modular solutions that people will be able to access and combine to meet their individual and evolving needs.
